- Production dateFrom: 1764 To: 1764
- Scope and ContentExpected letters. Understands Thomas Robinson busy in house with long sittings. Just finished Hume's `History of England', ‘’very clever...style pleasing, omitting some vulgarisms...as for his political principles I have read Hurd's last political dialogue as an antidote - he seems to have no idea of religion nor to conceive any medium between superstition & enthusiasm...there is I think an extraordinary similarity between our days & those of Charles I etc...". Some may be worried by this, others amused "at the performance of the same farce over & over again". Has just hear Mr. Scott preach a sermon, mistakenly thinks he preaches well. The Master continues making interest for Lord Sandwich [John Montague, 4th Earl of Sandwich], declaring his opinion that latter will keep his ground longer than Lord Hardwicke [Yorke]. To be hoped he is mistaken. Fritz "was chosen of the true blue last Wednesday & took [his] seat at the board accordingly’’. Compliments to Mr. Darner if seen before leaving England.
