- Scope and ContentThanks for letter of 15 March and accounts of Tour, Newby and publications contained therein. Describes his different residences, apologizes for any repetition. Anxious not to misrepresent them. [Expands description in L 30/14/315/24], greater detail of terrain etc... Apart from a "fit of the Gravel" and brief spell of Cholic all are well. At Aranjuez "where alone there is a fine Dairy, we breakfast in the English Manner & stuff as much Bread, Butter & Cream as we can". Otherwise it's dry toast, Chocolate or Coffee. Suppers "reckoned unwholesome; so we never eat any...". Has lost appetite to some extent, but Cook can "excite & gratify". Talks of company he keeps. “The art of living well with the people of this country, is by being plain & easy with them, neither formal nor illbred etc..” Few English there. Dr. Andrews, Provost of Dublin, visited at St. Ildefonso last year. Grantham's sister wrote she was at the Asylum [heard Porteus' sermon, see L 30/14/315/26]. P.S. Mentions paintings at Escurial. Lists residences and time of year there.
