Apologises for not replying to Grantham's letter, but has been busy recently at home and abroad. Pelham enjoys his situation at Cambridge, and Dr Watson's notice of him contributes greatly to the agreeableness of it, and he visits him as often as he can. Is obliged to Grantham and Mr [Frederick] Robinson for the recommendation. Miss [Anne] Robinson is preparing to leave Stanmer tomorrow, and her loss will be greatly felt by the whole family. The general topic of conversation is the Lewis [Lewes] election: Lord Trevor deserted Pelham's father in a very shabby manner, and they are now in opposition. The event is at present doubtful, though from all appearances Mr Trevor has no chance. Pelham's father proposes to keep him at Cambridge next winter and to send him abroad in the summer.
