- Scope and ContentSends his letter with his friend the Chevalier de Mazzalon, who sets out for Madrid today or tomorrow. Hopes Grantham is satisfied with the way his commission has been executed. The letter cases made in France are poor imitations of the English ones, and St Paul has found none of either country in green or blue morrocco, so has sent the best English one he could find, having made a general hunt in the shops in Paris. It would have been better if the little instruments had not been there, but he has left them, as it would have made little difference in cost to have taken them out. The workman has set up Mr Robinson's portrait very neatly. The bill just amounts to the limit of Grantham's commission. Mrs St Paul miscarried about a fortnight ago, but is now perfectly recovered. Their son is described as "a fine lively stout little man & adds much to our happiness and amusement". Gives news from the court of Paris. [In French] adds that the news is not very interesting, but that is all there is. [In English] Letters from North America of 2 August say there is nothing new. Thanks Grantham for his letter of 28 August, and asks to be kept informed of anything that happens. Lord Stormont is expected in Paris soon. Mr Jeans sends his respects and thanks.
