- Date free text28 Aug 1786
- Production dateFrom: 1786 To: 1786
- Scope and ContentHas received Lady Palmerston's letter of 26 August, and was "extremely vexed" to find that their intentions of buying the house in Park Street should have interfered with the Palmerston's. Had thought that the Palmerstons only continued to live in the house until they could find somewhere else, and was confirmed in this view by their saying that it was going to be painted and repaired in consequence of their intention to take it for three years longer. Had agreed with Mr Barrett to purchase for £2200, and wrote to Lady Palmerston last week informing her of the state of the transaction at that time and offering them to continue in the house for two or three years if the business was concluded. Should not have thought of this if had had any idea of the Palmerstons wanting to buy the house, and particularly regrets not sending the letter. If Lady Palmerston's letter had arrived earlier, the transaction might have been stopped. Does not wish to interfere with the Palmerstons views, so will part with the house if they have set their minds on having it, but would much rather let it to them for three years. It would be convenient to purchase now than in some years hence, because the present price of stocks renders it particularly suitable to buy out money at the moment.
