- Scope and Content2nd Baron Grantham to Lord North (Draft): Thanks North for his letter of 3 September and its communication of the King's intentions. Grantham will therefore await the King's commands, although he admits he is ignorant of the terms on which this post is now held. The reason Grantham wished to obtain the post of Cofferer was that it afforded an easy way of serving his brother. Repeats his application to North that his brother may receive some mark of the King's condescension. He will be elected for Rippon next Monday and his desire to support Government entitles him to North's notice and protection. Grantham declares that he relies so much upon Mr Ainslie's great goodness to them both. 2nd Baron Grantham to Lord Hardwicke (Draft): Informs Lord Hardwicke that he has received a letter from Lord North, and of the information contained in it. Details the contents of his reply, and the repeat of his application regarding his brother. Reminds Hardwicke of the need for confidentiality. Lady Grantham's expectations have not been disappointed in Yorkshire. Grantham declares his happiness in being with her. Gives his respects to Lady Grey.
