  • Scope and Content
Grantham must have received already from Lord Rochford a copy of the enclosed case of Messrs Mason and Jones, and will certainly do anything for them which can be done with justice and propriety. Although they depend upon the goodness of their cause as the best introduction to Grantham, they have also applied to North to bear testimony to their general character. They have been for some time engaged in a contact with the Treasury, and have executed it to the satisfaction of the several Boards who have had to do with them. They are "very considerable merchants", and their reputation is "extremely fair". Rochford is convinced they will not discredit Grantham's patronage. Their Assiento project has turned out indifferently, which makes it the more cruel upon them to be deprived of the use of the _6000, which has for four years been attached at Cadiz. North would rejoice to hear of the delivery of their money by Grantham's good offices.
