  • Scope and Content
Regrets having to trouble a good great man, but states he is liable to Importunity from the most unexpected quarters. Refers to "..pittance of Consulship of Cartagena" obtained through his friendship with Lord Rockford. This appointment is quoted as being amenable to Grantham’s orders and is considered to be more or less respectable. Reminds Grantham of his early connections to enforce his application on Mr Sherrat’s behalf. Wishes to be permitted to pledge himself to Grantham with his assurance that Mr Sherrat may be trusted with utmost confidence and can insure him as both firm and trusty in the most trying situation. If his Lordship can make his present pursuit in any degree more advantageous than its ordinary appointment he would be doing great justice to a very deserving though hitherto unfortunate man. He is sincere in his efforts to serve Mr Sherrat and is pleased to hear through him that Grantham is well and perfectly happy. Informs Grantham also that his Aunt is aware of his present employ and has directed him to make her Tender of best compliments.
