  • Scope and Content
Recites Will of Samuel Candish of Millbrook, gentleman, father of Grace, 17 September 1818, proved Prerogative Court of Canterbury 5 July 1821, bequeathing all property to Grace, subject to: Life estate in house at Millbrook, and annuity of £200 to wife Mary £20 each to Samuel Davis and Edward Smith £500 each to grandchildren H C Millard, E C Millard, Elizabeth Millard, and W H Millard after death of Mary Candish. Mary Candish died 29 June 1824. Lord Holland has contracted to purchase the property of the late Samuel Candish in Millbrook for £2,000, which is to be vested in the trustees: of the sum £500 is for the use of E C Millard, £1,000 for Grace Millard, and £500 is to remain on the trusts of the settlement of 27 July 1821. The legacies of £500 each to H C and E C Millard were raised by sale of £1,700 3% Consolidated Bank Annuities. The surplus was £591..10s. Of this £500 is to be applied for the benefit of H C Millard. The remainder £91..10s, together with £100 lately paid by the Reverend George Cardall to the trustees in part repayment of a mortgage of £200 made 1 February 1820 to Samuel Candish, has been paid to Grace Millard for her own use. The mortgage of 10 November 1812, for £1,400, assigned to Samuel Candish 10 May 1814, is to be vested in trustees as security for payment of 2 legacies of £500 to Elizabeth Millard and W H Millard, not yet paid because they are still minors. The sale of furniture of Samuel Candish used by his widow Mary during her life, raised £51..16s..4½d, less £11..18s..1½d expenses, and is assigned to the trusts of the settlement.
