Apologises for not replying sooner to Grantham's letter. Confirms the reports of Grantham's brother's good health, although Martin does not see him often. Robinson and Waddilove called on Martin, and they walked together to see Mr Robinson's house and Waddilove's. Have had glorious winter weather. The wind has at last got to eastward, so Mr Edward Hughes can sail with the East India Fleet. Is soon to be an inquiry into the proceedings against the late Lord Pigot, whose brother the Admiral sent Martin this morning a large pamphlet entitled "Account of the Subversion of the legal Government at Madras by imprisoning the Governor, Lord Pigot, in August 1776". Mr Stratton, one of the persons principally concerned against him, has been lately rejected form the House of Commons on a petition from Callington, the election being declared void. But he has been returned a second time, and Martin hears there is to be another petition. Asks when they may expect to see Grantham.
