  • Date free text
    May 1775

    From: 1775 To: 1775
  • Scope and Content
Received Marsh's letter of 12 May (L30/14/243/14). Grantham does not know what Munro's ambitions are, but his current situation is so agreeable to him that Grantham is convinced that he would not change it but for a certainty of something good in England, but cannot tell through what channel Munro himself could bring such an event to take place. If it should occur, Grantham would be very happy to recommend Marsh, but at the same time believes that the appointment is the responsibility of the King, and the Secretary of State's recommendation would have a great influence, so that any application from Grantham would be fruitless if any other person had been already thought of. Suggests Marsh's only option is to broach the subject with Munro in a casual conversation. Grantham himself will not make any step relative to Munro's affairs except upon his own application.
