- Scope and ContentLockhart is much recovered, although he will not return to England this year, and has given up all thought of returning to the Bar, and doubts whether he will "be stout enough for fatiguing business of any kind" and begins to reconcile himself to the "Idea of Country, of Retreat, of Idleness". Expects to leave Lisbon on sea expeditions sometime in June in the man of war then expected from the Mediterranean, which Lockhart believes will be the Admiral himself. Will visit Gibraltar, Minorca and perhaps get as far as the towns on the coast of Italy, before returning to Lisbon for the winter, although Naples is a more attractive proposition if Lockhart has no need of medical attention. Count Fontano has brought news of Grantham and his hospitality, and sends his compliments. P.S. that Grantham's reasons for declining any interference about Captain Fraser are very sufficient. Lord and Lady Hope, both of whom have been very ill, have arrived at Lisbon. Asks whether Errington arrived safely. Relates an amusing tale about a turtle supplied to Lord Stormont.
