- Scope and ContentTranslation: My Lord, Thinking that your Excellency could tax me with laziness, which is not a serious vice, but not having yet finished that which I want to send you, allow me to assure you of my most respectful good wishes and to bear witness to my sincere affection. However, I am less to blame than you might think. The Marquis de Clermont is changing his residence and for more than three months I have been responsible for the direction of the repairs and additions to the place where he is going to live. I beg Your Excellency to believe that in a short time, I will carry out the small obligation with which you have charged me. Allow me to say My Lord, that I remember with joy the happiness I felt in finding favour with you and I would never have dared to hope that my poor talent could have obtained such a benefit and my feelings are more affected than my vanity is flattered. I have taken care to fulfil that with which Your Excellency charged me in your letter. The Marquis and Marquise de Clermont as well as these gentlemen are very sensible of the fact that you remember them and have asked me to pay their respects to you and to Mr Robinson. I have the honour to be, My Lord, with the most respectful good wishes, Your Excellency's most humble and very obedient servant, P. Lelu.
