  • Scope and Content
Translation: My Lord, I eagerly take advantage of Mr Waddilove's visit to send once again the expression of my respect. He will tell Your Excellency better than I am able to explain how much your kindness is still of benefit to me. I was as much flattered by the circumstances which brought him to Lisbon as by the pleasure of seeing him and of talking together of all the people I saw in Madrid. He has willingly taken upon himself the task of taking to Your Excellency some drawings that I had promised, and the reasons by which I excuse myself from not having sent them earlier. They are a painters studies rather than views to remind one of places which have made an impression on one, and can only be appreciated by such an enlightened connoisseur as Your Excellency. Their Excellencies, the Marquis and Marquise de Clermont d'Amboise send you their compliments and to Mr Robinson. The Comte d'Innisdal and the Marquis of Glave join them in sending their respects to you. With deep respect, I have the honour to be, My Lord, Your very humble and very obedient servant, P Lelu.
