- Scope and ContentThanks for his letters, and confirmation that his horse has arrived safely. Estevan Torres has set out with his chariot, and the cases will follow soon. In reply to his enquiry regarding the sale of gunpowder to American vessels, he assures him in Bilbao the sale of gunpowder is prohibited. Only two vessels from that part of the world have entered Bilbao in the last two months; one from Nova Scotia, carrying fish, which left having only acquired salt; the other carried “trayn oyl which have sent on freight to Cadiz where he yntends [sic] to load with fruit and wines...” He writes, “Our friends in America Knows our character too well to demand our medaling in those affairs, and no doubt you will oblige us by doing us the same justice.”
