Scope and Content
The vessel with tobacco left Santander and "within a few hours after her departure was taken by one of His Majesty's Sloops of War who also Retook two Prizes out of three which sailed from this port likewise". The Vice-Consul says he has received no prizes at all, and most of the fish he received (see L30/14/184/4) has been sold. Mr Ratenkamp has offered Hill Vice-Consulship of Coruna but on very low terms. Four privateers at present at Bilbao, "but one of our Frigates and a Sloop of War seems to be waiting for them". Several prizes have been sent to surrounding small ports. Requests letters to be directed via Dr Alexandro Yglecias Santander for safety of delivery.
