  • Scope and Content
Two American privateers have been in port, the one being Captain Flecher's "Success", the other ship "The Hook"; they took on fresh provisions then put to sea again. No British vessel has arrived; nor have orders issued by Grantham yet been published, although the Commissary has a private order to inspect these matters "and not to suffer them to have any War likes stores". Captain Flecher told Hill that the orders were published in French ports "and that the French men of war ordered him... not to Cruse within three leags of their Coast, but that they do not observe the same; and so with regard to the Privateers they now enter them under the Colour of being in want, of a mast, or leaky ... they tarry without molestation as long as they please". All this information confidential.
