- Scope and ContentGrantham has fallen ill, Harris is relieved to hear he is recovering. The severe climate in St Petersburg has improved Harris's sleep and appetite. Well received at court, completely satisfied. At home he has a sensible, cheerful and right headed wife, a sister similarly disposed and a child that appears healthy and lasting. Looks forward to a perfect retirement. Rarely sees Madame Zenovieff, but constantly sees Yousapoi who remembers Grantham's hospitality in Madrid. Harris is sending two books describing Russian dress, but cannot send a print of Peter the Great's equestrian statue since no print has yet been published. Harris has been knighted by the Empress, and given a diamond sword. Asks after Munro. Politics: "Here we distribute Peace on all sides, and the Empress enjoys gloriously the effects of her strength and greatness".
