Apologises for lack of correspondence. Has heard and read news of the loss of officers in battle, worried about friends wounded. No news from the North, which is quite tranquil" ... glutted with the division of Poland the several powers seemed to be sleeping off their debauch". King of Prussia in good health, has gone to review troops in Silesia. A "swarm of Princesses" in Berlin, "some handsome, some plain and all ennuyeuse. The living with these highnesses is the best receipt I know against the Pomp and vanitys of this wicked world".
