    including: SJ491 book entitled "Accounts of Debts proved against the Estate of the late Lord St John Deceased" containing Simple Contract Debts; Annuities; Bond Debts; Judgments. This gives the names of many local tradesmen and of London tradesmen (including Thomas Gibbs, Half Moon Street, Middlesex, seedsman; James Lilburne of Cardington, land surveyor; John Millington of Hammersmith, civil engineer; Joseph Scrivener, Sharnbrook, bricklayer) 1817-1820 SJ502 and SJ503 Statement as to the affairs of the late and present Lords St John. On the death of Lord St John in 1817 his affairs were much involved and were placed in Chancery. There were large debts besides £18,000 owed to Messrs Coutts (remainder of a debt of £26,000) secured on a mortgage of nearly all his freehold and copyhold property, which was intermingled with the settled property. Other mortgages included £3,000 to Mr Waller on an estate purchased of Mr Glanville. Creditors were in 1829 paid a dividend of 8s..5½d in the pound. On the death of the late Lord St John in 1817 the present Lord St John's guardians (Sir Robert Heron and Mr Hankey) made him a Ward of Court. The property was found to be in a dilapidated state, and the depressed state of agriculture necessitated large outlays. Certain lands have been purchased. Sir William Edward Rouse Boughton and Sir Robert Heron, Trustees of West Indian property under Lady St John's will, have paid all debts except those owing by Lady St John and the legacies under her will. The estate is to be equally divided between Lord St John and his sister, and nothing can effectually be done till she comes of age.
