- Scope and ContentArrived in Paris "without a nail's being discompos'd in y chaise". Regrets leaving Madrid - "Paris never makes me gay, and I lament every moment I am oblig'd to stay in it". Grantham's clothes are set out "all but two waistcoats, which could not possibly be matched. This will move your indignation, but recollect leather ones are a la mode where you are."' Found Lord Robert Spencer "at Merope. Mademoiselle Dumesnel acts better than the Marigita and Molet as well as the Gratioso - seriously speaking I think this last. (I mean Molet) the first actor I have seen after Garrick". Met Jabez Hanger "who does not know why he is here", intends dining with Fuentes. Lord Harcourt is in London, Blaquiere at Fontainebleau. Later, no dinner with Fuentes, but well received by him "altho' he is not a pleasant man". "His daughter Madame Villa Cimosa is not beautiful but I lik'd her so well as to stay an hour and ½ tete a tete with her. The father talk'd politicks very reasonable and with great temper; I do not learn anything new of that kind here... The mother was not at home. The daughter spoke of you in a manner which ought to flatter you". Envies Lord Grantham in Spain. "I am sure you admitt that a man may have a sincere friendship and esteem for a woman. You have for the sister of the last mention'd Lord" (i.e. Grimaldi). Sends compliments to Grantham and brother. (Sic).
