  • Scope and Content
Grantham's recommendation of "young Brickdale" more influential than if it had come from the Conde de Ricla (?) or any other of the Ministers. Hardy has sent a message to Brigadier Vaughan. On the subject of Mr Sherratt, his "conduct has been extremely blameworthy. I had yesterday a long letter from him containing a detail of his quarrel with Dr Burrows and of his ill treatment from a Vice Consul and a pretended British House neither of whom in my opinion had any right to interfere in the business of the Consular Office. On the whole Mr Sherratt cannot possibly remain at Cartagena nor indeed does his conduct evince him to be a proper person for His Majesty's Commission. I am heartily sorry that Your Lordship has had so much trouble about a matter that cannot be finished to your satisfaction". Sincere regret at Mr Pelham's imminent departure from Cadiz. The young man's "polite behaviour and Affability has gained him respect from all that knew him".
