Scope and Content
Why papers in Secretary of State's office needed to support claim on India Company despite Lord Grantham's doubts on propriety. India House records prove that Lord Viscount Stormount persuaded chairmen of India Company to break their articles with writer at recommendation of Cabinet Council signified to them by commander in chief of royal forces; Lord Stormount as Secretary of State undertook to provide passage through Germany for my Regiment in King's name; non-performance of this was principal cause of my regiment not reaching Britain; papers will prove Lord Stormount concealed this engagement from King and never intended to perform it. Has been fortunate to get any evidence. Glad to hear that "nothing in the paper most materiall to me" to justify Duke of Wurtemberg's bad opinion; contains denial of authority to engage them; "I only executed the Commission I received from The India Company to raise a Regiment for that Service" stain on honour which cannot be redressed while "sanctified under the hand and signature of my Sovereign"- King cannot have been aware of situation; please lay my humble request for those papers before King.
