Received favour of 25 November 1782 by way of Italy, on 22 March; thanks for "communicating to me a subject of private gratification, altho' of such high value to a Soldier, as must be an approbation from his Prussian Majesty, which I receive with silent astonishment, not presuming on this very unexpected event to express my feelings even to Your Lordship, as I fear they might border too much upon vanity; and you must know My Lord that all precautionary steps for bringing this affair to a happy issue were entirely owing to the many and distinct intimations, you favoured me so punctually with, during your residence at Madrid".
