Regrets having to leave Madrid despite numerous amusements here; although few public amusements at Madrid time passed pleasantly in Lord Grantham's company. In consequence of Lord Grantham's letters to Mr Black "he showed me every civility in his power and made me drink a quantity of his Claret". Dined today with Lord Stormont; wrote to Shadwell from Bordeaux; remember me to Mr Robinson "he is the first man I ever met with possessed of real...? talents who keeps it a profound secret"; tell Munro I delay writing to him until I see his brother.
