- Scope and ContentThanks for letter of 13 January and 2 others introducing Mr Wibraham and the amiable Colonel of the Valentarios Estrangeros a battalion of which Regiment came lately from Cadiz to Algeziras and has had pleasure of seeing the Marquis and several of his Officers here. Hopes to see him again. Colonel Cherin left his horse with the Marquis. On receipt of Lord Grantham's letter I sent to Colonel Cherin, still at St Roque, and finding horse had been sometime in Marquis's possession insisted on his keeping him; when I receive the passport, he is to send in that horse and another of his own and has insisted that I shall take my choice". Wishes to buy 2 colts "and if difficultys should arise about leave to bring them here, I will plead my Services to H.C.M. in preventing the smuggling of tobacco, which I believe few of His Officers have taken more pains about than I have done".
