Scope and Content
Oliver St John of Bletso was created a Baron by Queen Elizabeth in 1559; in 1602 his grandson the 4th Baron married Elizabeth daughter and heiress of William Paulet of Wallop, Hampshire, a cousin of the Paulets, Marquesses of Winchester; he was created Earl of Bolingbroke in 1624. The Earldom became extinct on the death of the 3rd Earl in 1711.
