Possibly before this reaches you, you will have heard that I am to have an immediate attack in the county of Berwick, and from a person I did not expect. I am happy to inform your Lordship that I have your father's firm friendship, I cannot doubt of yours. It is absolutely necessary that I apply directly to my friends for their support at the general election. May I beg your lordship to write to Sir Henry Mcdougal in my favour? My opponent is Mr Scott of Harden, who sets up his son. I have only time to add that I have (etc)
