In hurry, setting out for opera. I doubt the militia scheme will not do. Mama has hummed and hawed; brought it out to Papa, who did not like it at all; 1st, does not think that, till winter over, you should undertake profession that demands settled health (bad quarters, out in rain etc.); then it runs in his head it is beneath a peer to take out a captain's commission. If Lord Ossory gave up Lieutenant Colonelship, and you had enjoyed good health for some time, that might be eligible (Mama does not think he can or will resign it but to the Duke of Bedford when of age). Doubt you will receive a very wise letter from the lantern (sic), disapproving of it also for personal reasons, and not liking a certain shire. Come next Thursday, believe "Jeremiah" also. Everybody (including King and Queen) at court prodigiously civil, Lord Oxford sent particular compliments. I don't know what to do about kitchen maid; no commission from housekeeper. Your key and list given to Mr Taitt. Lady M writes they come to town Tuesday. Don't be angry with some folks if you can help it, for care of your health is a great reason; and I could wish you would answer Papa's letter notwithstanding.
