  • Scope and Content
Madam, Inclosed I send your Ladyship a letter I have received from the Revd. Mr Dyke on the subject of the proposed annexation of his house at Burbage to the Living. Perhaps it would be the best mode for your Ladyship, and equally eligible for Mr Dyke, to purchase the house & grounds and grant a lease t him for 99 years if he shall so long live and hold the Living; and reserve by way of rent a sum about equal or rather less than he would pay if the purchase were made and the premises annexed to the Living under the Act. Your Ladyship might afterwards annex it to the Living or not. In the meantime however this will not be a legal parsonage house in which residence can be enforced. Mr Tomlinson the miller is willing, as I mentioned on a former occasion, to build the mill at his own expense, and though I think two guineas a year a small rent for the watercourse I submit to your Ladyship as the mill will be of advantage to the neighbourhood and as he incurs some risk in expending his money it will be desirable to close with him. The mill will fall in as an improvement to the estate when the lease expires. Mr Salisbury has written to me that he does not wish to treat for the use of the waste water. I inclose a receipt with an amount annexed as to the money paid on renewing the two policies with the Hand in Hand Fire Office. Draft on Messrs Hoare £76 4s 0d Cash paid £76 0s 4d I also inclose the form of the collectors receipt for the seventh instalment of the assessed taxes. The amount is the same as that of the preceding instalments. To save your Ladyship the trouble of writing I venture to name 12 o’clock on Friday when I will be in St. James Square unless I hear to the contrary. I have the honour to be, Madam, your Ladyship's obliged and faithful humble servant, Chas. H Ware.
