  • Scope and Content
Chit-chat. We begin to be jealous for fear the kennel should have more powerful attractions than the garden, for besides the Sunday parties it is to be honoured by a visit from a noble Duke, the Duke of Roxburgh, on a visit to Lord Ossory; and Lady Ossory informed Mrs Cox, who was there on the public day, that they intended it a visit. We have returned the Southill visit and never saw a house in such condition in our lives, so dirty and trollopy, the chairs and tables dancing the hayds, dirty towels in my Lord's room, and some cups as if somebody had been blooded in my lady's, the cushions in the drawingroom on the settees looked as if the whole family had been at romps; indeed the Lord and Lady in dishabille in their rooms but said they had been out all day.
