- Scope and Content–The inn in which Thomas Marriott dwells; two lofts in the occupancy of John Cox and John Craggs; and a stable adjoining the chaise house of Thomas Marriott, in the occupancy of John Laurie; and all appurtenant property (the whole purchased by John Cox of Edward Ashwell of Leighton Buzzard, esq., deceased. (only surviving brother and heir of Thomas Ashwell, gentleman, who was youngest son and devisee of John Ashwell, scrivener), except: a cottage being the east part of the said inn in the occupancy of John Laurie, the gateway of the inn west, the messuage of Peter Basset east & fronting north into the street or market-place there against the Cross; viz: the shop in front next to the gateway, the parlour behind the same, the kitchen or sitting room adjoining the passage to the shop, brewhouse adjoining the Swan brewhouse, 2 chambers in front on the first floor, 2 chambers in front on the second floor, and the garrets over them, 2 chambers over the kitchen and 2 chambers over the brewhouse and 3 cellars under the shop & parlour, the new wool warehouse against the lower yard and over the lower gatehouse; the old wool warehouse adjoining; and part of the building called the chaise house and also the liberty of passage to the common street, through the upper Yard and through the upper & lower yards to the Bell Pightle leading to Parsons Close.
