Richard William Fitzpatrick to freehold land on the west side of Foster Hill Road, Bedford (I) Marriage Settlement of 11th December 1844 Parties: (i) Richard William Fitzpatrick of Inner Temple [Middlesex], esquire; (ii) Nicholas Fitzpatrick, late of Bedford, then of Brighton [Sussex], doctor of medicine (father of (i)) (iii) Harriett Chandless of Gloucester Place, Portman Square [Middlesex], spinster; (iv) Thomas Chandless of Gloucester Place, esquire (father of (iii)); (v) Cecil Long of Gloucester Place, esquire; James Long Fitzpatrick of Middle Temple [Middlesex] Reciting: - Lease and Release of 18th-19th February 1841 between (1) Charles Robinson, surgeon; William Swepson, ironmonger; (2) Nicholas Fitzpatrick; (3) Richard Halfhead, banker in which (1) released (a) to (2) with (3) as trustee; - will of Sir William Long, though not relating to (a); - a marriage had been agreed between (i) and (iii); - it was agreed that (ii) would settle (a), (i) would settle (b) and (iii) would settle another piece of land; - (ii) appointed (a) to trusts; Operative Part: - (ii) released (a), (i) released (b) and (ii) released (c) to (v) Property: (a) close of arable in Bedford, Saint Paul of 15 acres, 1 rood, 31 poles called Hill Piece bounded: S by (b); E by land of Samuel Whitbread; N or NW by land of the Rector of Bedford, Saint Paul; W by land of Leonard Hampson called Clapham Close and agreed to be sold to John Thomas Dawson; (b) close of arable of 9 acres, 3 roods, 35 poles called the close above Saddlers Close of which 4 acres, 3 roods, 33 poles were in Bedford, Saint Paul and 5 acres, 2 poles in Bedford, Saint Peter de Merton bounded: N by (a); S by Sadlers Corner; E by land of Samuel Whitbread; W by close of Leonard Hampson called Clapham Close and agreed to be sold to John Thomas Dawson with right of way Habendum: - to (v) until solemnization of the marriage; remainder to the use of (i) for his life; remainder to the use of (iii) for her life; remainder to the use of (v) in trust for sale after the deaths of (i) and (iii) (II) Richard William Fitzpatrick and Harriett Chandless married at Saint Mary’s, Bryanstone Square [Middlesex] on 12th December 1844 (III) Death of James Long Fitzpatrick at the Cape of Good Hope [South Africa] on 25th March 1850 (IV) Memorandum of 18th January 1853 endorsed on (I) appointing Thomas Chandless the younger as trustee in place of James Long Fitzpatrick (V) Death of Nicholas Fitzpatrick in Bedford on 13th May 1852 (VI) Death of Richard William Fitzpatrick at Bedford on 4th January 1871 (VII) Death of Harriett Chandless Fitzpatrick at Bedford on 4th November 1878 (VIII) Payment of Succession Duty on 15th April 1879 (IX) Death of Thomas Chandless at Brighton on 11th October 1891
