- Scope and ContentVery cold. Enjoyed Cambridge, colleges more cheerful and comfortable than Oxford, public buildings fine (further comments). Ceremony of turning Dean into a Doctor. Dr and Mrs Plumptree. Dean's cold much increased by taking her about in the rain. Children perfectly well and merry, James desires Lady Bell may be acquainted he is grown a very good boy and consequently is in a fair way of being a good scholar...little Polly much amused with circle of ladies in drawingroom, will stay there 2 hours observing their dress and admiring their fans etc. with the true taste of a London fine lady; but sister despises company and conversation; read in a book that the world turns round like a globe once in 24 hours, is it true "because she thought... she must perceive the motion". How could it be known the world moved if nobody could perceive it? Dean much entertained.
