Letter from Joseph Pawsey. Directions from Mr Wolfe as to plinth on North front and East end and court. Sunk fence in progress. Pots for garden about £3. Will try to procure tench and carp (Ouse does not produce them). Drying ground and poultry yard in court. Stone masons have completed bow window in dining room; will hang iron gates in North court. Mrs Pawsey in town, taking Frederick to Doctors Latham and Turton. Has not yet been to Harrold. Riotous meeting or mob of labourers etc. in neighbourhood of Baldock and towards Henlow, but by kind words from Mr Edwards and Sir Philip Monoux they dispersed. "They wanted an advance of wages or reduction of the price of bread. I believe they gave them the former."
