Letter from Amabel Hume-Campbell to Jemima Yorke. Sent from Marchmont: Journey north, (man tired with riding post). Met by Mr Egerton at Darlington inn, to invite them to Auckland. Bishop and Lady Sophia fairly well. Situation fine, view from it in grand style, high banks of little but turbulent stream. Durham and Newcastle would be fine if not the 2 nastiest towns. Most affect'ly received at Marchmont; Sir John and Lady Ann Paterson arriving today. Marchmont House very comfortable good house to live in; hall floored, drawingroom very handsome; a good deal of plantation about the house, not full grown, ascent through them very pretty. The dogs.
