Scope and Content
Joseph Bierton was the son of David and Leah Bierton of Leighton Buzzard; husband of Alice Elizabeth Bierton of 9 St George Street, Leighton Buzzard. Born in 1884 at Leighton Buzzard, at the time of the 1911 census he was living with his widowed mother, a sister and two boarders in Luke Street, Leighton Buzzard and his occupation is given as bookeeper and clerk. He married Alice later in 1911. He enlisted at Bedford in 1916 and on completion of his training was drafted to the Western Front in October 1916. He took part in the Battle of the Somme, and later was killed in action near Arras. He was killed in action on the 17th February 1917.
