- Scope and ContentRecent visit to Wrest. "I assure you we thought [it] as short as you are so good as to say you did ... I hope you left Wrest and the pretty ducks all well; when one has been together in the country one feels interested and curious after all the most trifling amusements". "We have had no company here except Mr Villiers ... as to the new building it is really surprising to see so much done in so short a time. It is very large, and vastly calculated for convenience, but it looks, I think too much like a square in London or some of the colleges ... The new garden beyond the menagerie is vastly beautiful; there I take my morning solitary walks or ramble in the park before breakfast, which is really as fine as a garden. Afterwards we all ride out together ... In the evenings we are out till it is dark, and they play a sober pool at some common game, and the sisterhood work as hard as at home. The Duchess is very gracious, and the Duke very well and in good spirits. She said she was very sorry to miss your visit". French books.
