- Scope and ContentWill: Robert Farnell of Ampthill, grocer -to wife Anne all lands and tenements except copyhold estate held of manor of Ampthill -has already provided for daughter Frances by first wife, being wife of John Gale of Dunstable, but as token of affection bequeaths to her for life cottage with orchard and appurtenances in Wilshamstead, purchased of Elizabeth Deacon, now in occupation of -- Sedgewick and after her death to her children now living -has already made provision for eldest son Richard by setting him up at Town of Bedford in his trade of a brazier and giving him some money; desires youngest son Charles to be settled in testator's business and shop -to son Charles (subject to devise to wife) messuage where testator now dwells in Ampthill in Dunstable Street or the South End (being settled on wife in jointure) and also messuage adjoining (being now 2 dwellings) in occupation of Samuel Placquet senior and William Emerton formerly Norris -lands and tenements in Ampthill formerly Norris's and now in occupation of Samuel Placquet junior at 50s per annum -barn and garden belonging in Ampthill in Dunstable Street the South End formerly Bellamys -has surrendered all copyhold held of the manor of Ampthill to use of will, now devises to son Richard Farnell (subject to devise to wife in first part of will) all freehold and copyhold and leasehold premises in Ampthill and Millbrook, also mortgage on estate at Biggleswade in occupation of Mary Cartwright, widow made to testator for principal of £100 provided that son Richard will at request of son Charles levy and suffer fine and recovery of premises where testator dwells; if son Richard will not do so all said premises to go to Charles -residue to wife requesting her to give stock in trade to son Charles and settle him therein Witnesses: John Brydall of Ampthill, apothecary, Samuel Wright of Ampthill, victualler, Richard Ward of Leighton Buzzard, attorney at law
