Appoints Edmund Powers, George Race and Thomas James Hooper executors and trustees £50 each to Cornelius Pope of South Mills and Joseph Cole of Tempsford £100 each each of daughters £1000 each to Sophia Ann, wife, £100 on decease to Trustees furniture etc., household goods on trust Wife to have option either a) to enjoy £400 worth during widowhood (on ceasing to be widow – Trustees to sell) or to take b) £200 worth to her absolute use. if a), Inventory to be prepared. Trustees to sell all freehold estates, to dispose of all copyhold as well discretionary power to postpone sale power to let for up to 7 years Trustees can carry on business at his death T J Hooper entitled to his fees despite being a Trustee to brother Edmund 10s a week for life to brother Thomas £1 a week for life to wife £200 per annum for life (down to £100 if remarry) Trustees: 4 sums of £6000 to be set apart, rents and dividends to be paid to: daughter Elizabeth Kidman Powers, reversion to her children, reversion to brothers and sisters to Annie Amelia ditto to Mary Louisa ditto to Arthur for life “or until he shall be outlawed or become a bankrupt” or “anticipates assign charge or incumber” same dividends etc. reversions to children and widow, and then to hotchpot to 2nd and 3rd sons Hugh and Walter £3000 each when 21 (except money spent on getting them to be clerk, clerk’s apprentice etc., if die before 21. 2) hotchpot residue to sons Hugh and Walter, vested in them at 21, theirs at 25 years old. keep present investments otherwise Government Stocks/Funds “or in the purchase of or at interest a mortgage” Debentures of Railway in working operation, legal interest as Trustee or Mortgagee to Trustees. power to appoint new trustees, 1st option to son/sons over 21 years old power to augment or reduce number of trustees Will made 31 Oct 1872 (witness: T J Hooper and Gilbert Haynes his clerk) fair copied 29 Jul 1886
