    Cyril Flower was appointed a Lord of the Treasury by W.E. Gladstone, Prime Minister in Feb 1886. This meant that he had to vacate his seat. He was returned unopposed. He continued as a junior Lord of the Treasury until 1886 when Gladstone lost power. T.J. Hooper acted as 'acting under sheriff' to Charles W. Powell of Hitchin, under sheriff to J.F.H.
