- Scope and Contentincluding telegram from Hugh Powers, Corn Exchange, Bedford to Hooper and Company of Bedford; do send Pentelow’s letter – “bought some wheat of him” 29 Mar 1879 letter John Pentelow of Hail Weston, Huntingdonshire to Charles Powers’ executors; hopes will not press case for £40 odd (in fact £40..12s) “I am just settling into a new agreement with my landlord. I am getting a good reduction with the opportunity of selling off hay and straw and to purchase cake and etc. to amount sold off” will be good customer next year “as you will not fail to perceive that straw will be most likely make a deal more money next year” promises them 1st load of wheat. asks not to be pressed for three months or put to further expense with your solicitor. “There are a number of them (solicitors) friendly with my landlord and of course a thing of that sort spoken of cannot fail to do me harm” undated [6 May 1879] [Note in Commercial Directory 1877; Edward Reynolds of Little Paxton is listed as principal land owner and he probably is the landlord referred to. Pentelow is listed as a farmer in 1877 but not in 1885 by which time he appears to have gone out of business]
