Note from Thomas Hawkes to Mr Wilkinson. 'The flood at Luton & the day Mr Jno Brown was drownd was Feb 20th 1795 And the foot bridge was then standing and I can find in an old book every day I was at work & the place till may 21 1798 & the present Bridge was not then began as I am allmost sure there were built in 1799 the same time I was Building the Friends Meeting house at Luton - but who paid for them I cannot at present tell but I will Endevour to find it out if I can.'
