- Scope and ContentReciting will of William Swinstead, late of Leighton Buzzard, farmer, dated 23 April 1862 by which he gave to wife, Mary Swinstead (since deceased) £50 a year for life, to son, ii), £35 p.a. for life and to son's widow, if any, £20 p.a. for life. All real estate devised to i). William Swinstead died on 26 August 1863 - Will proved. 15 February 1864 (Northampton) Reciting enfranchisement of 24 May 1865 now in Consideration of £1000 paid to i) by iii) in equal shares i)including Sarah for the purpose of extinguishing her right to dower in the property, release to iii) - premises in schedules (and in plan on deed) to be held (as to one moiety) as Theodore shall appoint and (as to other moiety) as George-Franklin shall appoint ii) discharges iii) from payment of yearly sum of £35 i) covenants with iii) that if ii) should leave a widow, he will pay said annuity of £20 1st schedule - cottage and land (3 roods 20 perches) at Gig Hill Furlong, Leighton Buzzard, and forming part of old enclosure numbered 346 on enclosure award - garden ground adjoining (1 acre 11 perches) numbered 345 on enclosure plan and allotted to William Swinstead, senr, in lieu of rights of common 2nd schedule - 3 roods 19 perches at Gig Hill Furlong, being remaining part of no 346 - garden ground at Gig Hill Furlong (2 roods 7 perches) numbered 344 on enclosure map and awarded to William Swinstead, senior, in lieu of copyhold lands and rights of common Signatures all Endorsed receipt Witnesses Frederick Willis, solicitor, Leighton Buzzard John Newton, solicitor, Leighton Buzzard acknowledgement by Sarah Swinstead 28 May 1868 also Endorsed with: Appointment and conveyance of moiety a) George Franklin b) Theodore Harris now in Consideration of £500 paid to a) by b) a) grants to b) - undivided moiety of above mentioned property Signature of a) Witness George W Davis, Leighton Buzzard, accountant Receipt 31 December 1878
