    Deponent of Frederick Weston on his Oath saith last Saturday afternoon I was waiting at the Kings Arms in Luton. I saw John Anis [Aris] and James Dawson make a swop of hats. Anis asked Dawson whether he would swop – Dawson said he would if he liked – and they then exchanged hats. John Anis [Aris] on his Oath saith last Saturday afternoon I went to the Kings Arms between Twelve and One o’clock had been there a short time when Dawson and Carter came in it might be then two o’clock Dawson had a hat on when he came in and Carter a Cap we were all jumping and dancing together our hats fell off Dawson picked up my hat and I picked up his I said to him you look well in my hat and you and I had better make a chop The Hat now produced is the hat I got from Dawson and it is the same hat which Taylor after wards claimed. The Deponent George Taylor on his Oath Saith I lent my hat to Joseph Carter last Saturday morning. At night I asked him for my Hat – mine was a new hat and he offered me an old hat instead – which I would not have – last night I saw my hat on John Anis[Aris] head – I asked him for it and he refused to let me have it. He said he had swopped another for it. Joseph Carter on his Oath saith On Saturday George Taylor lent me his hat I did not return it to him I went to the Kings Arms about 3 o’clock – I then had the hat on I fell asleep there when Anis [Aris] was there I was [] When I woke I found the hat was gone and another old hat instead.
