- Scope and ContentJohn Baron: he was bailiff to Mrs Caton of Haynes. On the night of Saturday 23 April a hen and 6 young ducks were stolen from the premises. Having cause to suspect that he would find them either on the property of James Lincoln or William Galer, both of Clophill, he applied for a search warrant. They found the hen and ducks at William Galer’s. Elizabeth Stevens: she was servant to Mrs Caton and could without hesitation swear that the hen and ducks produced were that of her mistress. Statement of the accused - James Lincoln: he said he swopped a watch, a very bad one, for the hen and ducks and sixpence but he does not the man. He sold the hen and ducks to Galer.
