- Scope and Contenton behalf of Richard Conquest esquire, plaintiff v. Richard Conquest, infant, by his guardians and other defendants by Robert Peyton esquire, examiner in Chancery Henry Conquest, gentleman now lodging at the house of Mr Farmer, an apothecary in the parish of St Andrew's, Holbourne, London, for 22 years, produced as a witness on the part of the plaintiff was on 28 November 13 Charles II [1661] shewed in person to Mr Staveley who is the clerk that deals with the plaintiff in this cause, by Mr Samuel Banster one of the sworn clerks in my office, who then also left a note in writing of the name, title and place of abode of the same deponant with the said Mr Staverly and afterwards, on the same day, the deponant being sworn and examined says: 1. to 1st interrogatory: says that he knows Richard Conquest esquire, the plaintiff and Mildred Copledick alias Conquest, defendant; knows Richard Conquest the infant and the defendants William Knight and Ralph Harvey and knew Richard Conquest, deceased, late father of said defendant Richard and 2nd son of the said plaintiff 4. to 4th interrogatory: says he did not know Mildred Copledick before said Richard Conquest father of the defendant and she first became acquainted; deponant has been credibly informed that when the said Richard Conquest first became acquainted with her she was of very evil fame and reputation and was given to keep company and to do things that was [sic] very uncivil and that she was then reported to be with child and the said deponant says that said Richard had not any fortune or portion with the said Mildred and says that he believes that the said Mildred and the said Richard Conquest was [sic] never lawfully married for this deponant has much inquired after the same but never could certainly ...said Mildred and Richard were lawfully married Interrogatories on behalf of Richard Conquest esquire, plaintiff v. Richard Conquest an infant, by Mildred Coppledicke alias Conquest, his guardian and also v. said Mildred, William Knight and Ralph Harvey, defendants 1. did you know Richard Conquest, gentleman deceased, late father of the defendant Richard and 2nd son of the plaintiff? 2. do you know that ... whereunto you are a part was sealed and delivered by the plaintiff unto you to the use of the said Richard Conquest deceased and did you or the said Richard Conquest deceased give or pay any consideration, if so what, to the plaintiff for the same or did you ever see the same before this present? 3. are the names William Thymelby, Richard Lewis and William Smeaton endorsed as Witnesses on the other deed now showed to you of their respective handwritings? 4. ....know the defendant Coppledicke and how long before the said Richard Conquest and she first became acquainted and of what reputation was the said Mildred at that time and what fortune or portion had the said Richard with her and were the said Richard and Mildred ever lawfully married as you know?
