    Recites Letters Patent 10 November 1 Elizabeth [1559]** to Lady Elizabeth Ratcliffe widow, now deceased, by the name of Elizabeth Ratcliffe wife of Humphrey Ratcliffe knight and Edward Ratcliffe their son A a- lordship and manor of Houghton alias Houghton Conquest with appurtenances (once belonging to the dissolved priory of Chicksands and afterwards annexed to the Honour of Ampthill b- rent of 18d and service to the Crown issuing from one tenement formerly two in Chappell ende in Houghton Conquest and a close adjoining the said tenement and 3 acres of land in the fields c- rent of 1¾d and service to the Crown issuing from one cottage of Thomas Audeley kinsman (consanguinus) and heir of Henry Audeley in Chapple Ende and from the close adjoining and certain lands in the common fields d- 2 parcels of meadow, 1½ acres, in occupation of Walter Hill in Wootton e- Houghton Grange and all demesne lands and lands, meadow, ley and pasture in Houghton Conquest belonging to said Grange in occupation of James Dawney f- little grovett of underwood (grovett´ sub bosc´) called Southgrove in Houghton :S. pasture of Lord Graye :N. common way :E. close called Mereley :W. close called Markyates in occupation of James Dawney for term of life of Elizabeth and Edward Said Elizabeth is since dead and Edward survived her Now: at petition of Richard Burnett and William Butt, gunners (vibrellatores) The Queen grants and to farm lets to Richard Conquest esquire -premises b-f as above to hold aforesaid premises in Wootton and Houghton Conquest to Richard Conquest immediately from death of Edward Ratcliffe until the end of the term of 31 years paying £13..16..7¾ at Lady Day and Michaelmas B also: at petition of aforesaid Burnett and Butt grants and to farm lets to Alice Garwais (Garwaye) for 31 years and after death to her assigns for residue of the term paying £4 at Lady Day and Michaelmas -messuage called the Bores Heade in the parish of St Dunstan in Fleetstreet in London in occupation of Christopher Day, formerly in the possession of the house of Carmelite brothers in London and lately granted to John Nasshe and wife Alice for term of their lives by Letters Patent September 34 Henry VIII and afterwards demised to William Phillippes gentleman by Letters Patent under the Great Seal 14 February 31 Elizabeth for 31 years from Michaelmas then last past at £4 per annum C also: at petition of said Burnett and Butt grants and to farm lets to John Dixon from end of term of 21 years granted to William Hunys for term of 31 years at 20s per annum at Lady Day and Michaelmas -tithesof grain and hay in Bagley alias Bagbie in Shropshire in occupation of Richard Glasier, parcel of the rectory of Baschurch in the said county late of the monastery of Saints Peter and Paul and granted to William Hunys, gentleman by Letters Patent under Great Seal 14 May 8 Elizabeth [1566] for 21 years from the feast of St John the Baptist then next ensuing at 20s per annum D to John Dixon from Annunciation which will be in 1619 for term of 31 years paying £4..3..4 per annum at Lady Day and Michaelmas - 64 acres land of pasture in Baldwyn Brightwell in Oxfordshire late in occupation of Anthony Carleton -close of pasture 40 acres in the same in occupation of John Smyth -close called Blond in the same -parcel of land called Cadwallis :S. John Smyth :N. common way to Cadwallis Fourde in occupation of Nicholas Spyer being parcel of the manor of Cadwallis annexed to the Honour of Ewelme late part of the possessions of Charles late Duke of Suffolk and then acquired by the Crown and granted to Joyce Carleton by Letters Patent 7 December 19 Elizabeth [1576] for 21 years from Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary next for rents of 32s, 30s, 21s..4d and afterwards demise to John Walker by other Letters Patent under Great Seal 13 May 25 Elizabeth [1583] for 21 years from feast of Annunciation 1598 at rent of £4..3..4 E to John Dixon from Michaelmas 1619 for 31 years at £16..11..8 per annum at Lady Day and Michaelmas -manor of Tyborne with appurtenances in Middlesex and site and capital messuage thereof and 2 orchards and 1 dovecote belonging now in occupation of Richard Jaquet in parish of Marybone and all gravel and clay pits belonging -windmill in occupation of Thomas Holt in Marybone which premises were granted to Henry Sidney knight by Letters Patent 23 May 7 Edward VI for 35 years and then to Anthony Denny esquire from Michaelmas 1563 at £16..11..8 and then to Edward Forcett gentleman by Letters Patent under Great Seal 3 July 25 Elizabeth [1583] for 21 years from Michaelmas 1598 or from the time when aforesaid demise to Henry Sidney shall be ended, at £16..11..8 at Westminster **[extract of said patent from published Calendar of Patent Rolls: 10 November: Grant for life in survivorship to Elizabeth Ratcliff, wife of Humphrey Ratcliff, knight and Edward Ratcliff, their son, of the manor of Houghton alias Houghton Conquest, a grange called Houghton Graunge in Houghton and lands etc. (named with tenants' names) in Houghton and Wotton, county Bedford, late of Chicksands priory, county Bedford, and afterwards annexed to thr honour of Ampthill: regalities reserved; yearly value £13..16..7¾; issues from Lady Day last. In consideration of the surrender by Humphrey and Elizabeth of a patent of Henry VIII granting to Elizabeth by the name of Elizabeth Harvy, for life an annuity of £10; and for the education of Edward"
