- Scope and ContentCharles Galer: on 7 October, between 7pm and 8pm, he saw James Blows with a small axe in his hand running after a donkey belonging to Charles Albone. It was in a garden belonging to Blows in the parish of Stotfold. He chopped the hock of its rear hind leg and the donkey ran away with Blows running after him. He heard him say "you bugger I have got one limb and will have another before morning". Blows could not catch the donkey and then he went in to his house, which was close by. His master Charles Waldock was with him at the time and went and looked at the donkey. It bled a good deal and it was a deepish cut upon the joint. He thought the donkey was so much injured it would have to be destroyed. Charles Albone: about 4pm he turned his donkey out into the common at Stotfold, where they had a right to turn anything. He left the donkey there and about 8pm he got information that he had received injuries. He went to see and found Mr Waldock and Charles Galer had brought it home to his house. It was bleeding very fast. The donkey was unable to set his hind leg to the ground and he was afraid it would have to be destroyed. Statement of the accused: it was not an axe with which he cut the donkey and it was an old bill.
