    - one messuage in le Chapell Ende with 5 roods arable belonging, scattered in the fields of Houghton, which i) have of the gift of ii) by deed dated 4 June 29 Henry VIII [1537] (see RO5/102) to ii) for life and after her death to John son of aforesaid Thomas Day and wife Katherine and his heirs or in default of heirs of his body then to Edmund Day son of aforesaid Thomas and Katherine Day and to the heirs of his body. If said John and Edmund die without heirs then premises to be sold by executors of said John or by the churchwardens of the parish church (gardianos ecclesie parochiale) of Houghton aforesaid for the time being, proceeds to be distributed in works of charity, viz: in finding one secular priest to celebrate masses and obsequies for the souls of the aforesaid Thomas and Katherine Day and for the souls of their relatives (parentes) and benefactors for half a year after the death of the said Katherine in the parish church Of Houghton, the said priest to have as his stipend 4 marks. Surplus to be distributed in charitable works as seems best to them.
